Students now include:

  • 11 Winthrop students (first senior class of new digital information design program)
  • 20 York Tech students (includes students from web, design, & marketing)

The Hive will conduct 6 projects for 6 paying clients with 35 Winthrop and York Tech students in a once-vacant space in Old Town.

The Hive will occupy the third floor of the Citizen Building on the corner of Main Street and Caldwell Street. It will begin on January 10 and will last until May (one semester for the students). Then, the program will run again in the Fall. The summer months leave opportunity for interesting and active use of the space.

We now seek the support of the City of Rock Hill to become a collaborative partner of The Hive for one year.

We believe that the project is thoroughly aligned with the City’s goals in economic development. We also believe the project provides a needed balance in approach, in that it is an experiment as opposed to a strategy.

In short, we plan to drop 35-55 people onto Main Street on January 10 in a productive, creative space to do innovative and meaningful work for local non-profits. We’re armed with a slew of collaborative participants and a two-year business plan. We’re not sure what comes after that.

We believe the City should participate.

If you are interested and able to come Monday evening to the council meeting, please do. Or if you have other ways to show support, please do.

Thank you.
