The nature of communicating to prospective audiences is forever changed because the Web is happening right now. We now function in a world with immediate casual access to seemingly unlimited amounts of meaningful information, able to be localized around any idea we put before it, while morphing around our behavior, our preferences, and our communities.
The world is forever changed. Yet, people are the same. We each go into that sphere of content, and we interact. We are each ourselves there. Even if we are masquerading, we are being who we are just by being compelled to do it. We explore what we are interested in. We seek out what we desire. And we share with others drawn into your sphere – proximity inherent in commonality / likeness / sameness.
In the search for meaningful use, one will wonder how these phenomena and shifts and changes present opportunity and challenges to one’s organization. What does success look like?

Consider that
- every organization is investing in improved communications online – more fluid, more productive, more engaging, more interactive, more measurable in achieving real goals and objectives;

- every organization is faced with immediate needs and opportunities to fulfill their missions to a greater degree.

I am attending the Rock Hill Economic Development Corporation’s retreat in Rock Hill, SC today. It will be held at the City Club in Old Town. I am on the board of the RHEDC.
I look forward to the day. I believe that we will be taking a closer look at how the city and Winthrop can work together to create more of a college town type of experience in the Old Town. Winthrop has traditionally been a suitcase college, and Old Town has traditionally not been much at all dating back to the heyday of the city. But in the last 10 years the Historic downtown blocks have been renovated and revitalized, and Winthrop has grown considerably. There is a tipping point pending.

The Internet is a Sphere that localizes itself around you inspired by your idea, your presence (presents).
The Internet is a sphere that localizes itself around you. You as an idea, in that moment in time, through that reality/experience.
If you go to Google and search an idea, it localizes itself around that idea. It may localize around a geography, but only in that that geography is an idea.
If you go to Facebook and login, it localizes itself around your network of people. If you go to Twitter and search, it localizes itself around ideas.
The whole search experience, the fluidity, the localization and meaningful use amidst infinite possibility for arranging an unfathomable amount of content.
It’s like the universe, like reality. It’s a sphere.

In our personal relationships, good and fruitful communication is about listening and being open and a spirit of cooperation and a belief in synergy. Yet, traditionally with institutions, communication is about dissemination of information from the top – with support and grumblings underneath. The Internet has challenged that idea, and we have begun to change the way we think about how an institution communicates with an audience and within its own walls.
