In 1977, while everybody was going to see Star Wars and hanging out at the mall, Joe Lanford spearheaded a project that changed the course of History for Rock Hill. For 17 years, Main Street was covered with a roof and dubbed The Town Center Mall. It was a decision that remains controversial and debated. It’s also a quirky stand-out in the memory of anyone who grew up here. Town Center Mall wasn’t his only contribution. Joe oversaw many efforts to push Rock Hill into the growing city it is today, including the Civitas of Dave Lyle. He’ll share the background on that and many other moments of change. We’re particularly excited about this chance to hear Joe’s side of all those widely discussed Rock Hill stories.
