We talked to Lanny Adamson, the Associate Managing Director of York Preparatory Academy, on this installment of the Old Town New World podcast. Lanny will be the principal of the impending YPA Kettlesong Campus. He discusses with us the philosophy and practices that gave YPA the 2021 Best High School award by the US News and World Report. They also earned the National Blue Ribbon for being in the top 1% of schools in the United States for student growth, the Palmetto Gold Award, and the Palmetto Silver Award. They were named a School of Distinction and added to the Advanced Placement Honor Roll.
Lanny explains place-based learning and how it immerses students in community and nature to round out their experience. He adds how experiential education gives student a great foundation to their immediate environment which strengthens their understanding and confidence in the greater world.
Lanny is from Arkansas originally and graduated with multiple degrees, including a Masters of Education, from Utah State University. He has taught social studies to at-risk students before joining the team at York Prep in June 2021.
