We talk to Winthrop University president Edward Serna about the future of higher education locally and nationally. Edward explains his vision for Winthrop and highlights a lot of things going on at WU we didn’t know. He gives some clarity around concerns and misconceptions happening in education right now and what he sees as the best path forward.  

Before being unanimously elected president of Winthrop University, Edward was president of the University of Arkansas–Fort Smith, followed by the University of Maine-Farmington.

Born in Los Angeles, CA, Edward grew up in various cities before earning a doctorate of education in higher education from the University of Alabama, a Master of Science in management information systems from Auburn University, a Master of Science in industrial management from Clemson University, and a Bachelor of Science in business administration from Winthrop.
